The new Surface Laptop 13-inch Snapdragon X Plus, released on 20th May 2025, is being increasingly compared to the MacBook Air 13-inch M4, with claims that it’s a worthy alternative to the device.

In this article, we will compare the features and specifications of each device to see if this is true, while also helping you determine which option is better for your business .

Spec Comparison Table

[table id=43 /]

MacBook Air 13” M4

The MacBook Air 13” has great specs that offer some superiority over the Surface Laptop. These include battery life, memory, and processing speed.

However, the MacBook is slightly heavier than the new Surface Laptop, has a smaller display, and retails for over £100 more.

Another important factor is its environmental impact. The MacBook Air is more sustainable, as more of its component and build materials are 100% recycled. With its powerful processor and long battery life, this laptop would be a lot better for people with slightly heavier workloads than the typical everyday professional.

Surface Laptop Snapdragon 13”

The Surface Laptop 13” Snapdragon X Plus is the lightest computer Microsoft have ever released, weighing in at 1.22kg. It has very unique features that make it a strong contender against the MacBook Air, such as a touchscreen display and built in Ai features.

It also retails at a lower cost, and has a slightly bigger display than the MacBook Air – however, it hasn’t been built from as many recycled components, meaning the impact on the environment is higher.

Although it isn’t as powerful as the MacBook, this laptop is a better choice for hybrid workers due to its lightweight design and it’s 16.5 hour battery life.

Final thoughts

Both the MacBook Air and the Surface Laptop are excellent devices for every day, on-the-go workers, but in terms of specs, although the MacBook has more power, the Surface will still perform well enough for most daily workloads.

Not only that, but the Surface is the lighter option, making it more portable than the MacBook Air.

In summary, it’s fair to say that the Surface Laptop 13″ Snapdragon is a worthy alternative to the MacBook Air 13″. Choosing the right one for your business depends on whether you’d prefer a Windows or a Mac operating system, and if you prioritise the better display quality and faster chip in the MacBook, or the touchscreen functionality, Ai features and lightweight design of the Surface Laptop.
