Further info on UK Government support.
How do I access support from the Government schemes?
The Government has announced a range of significant measures to support businesses through this period – a summary is provided below. To expedite access to this support, the Government has sensibly decided to channel these measures through existing scheme participants including the major UK banks. We would therefore encourage customers to fully explore the support they can access with their relationship bank.
With the rapidly changing nature of the COVID-19 outbreak, information and advance from the government can change quickly. It is therefore advisable to check on appropriate Government websites for the most up to date information. Below is a summary of the package of measures that the government has announced to date to support businesses including:
Statutory sick pay relief for SMEs
Allow small- and medium-sized businesses and employers to reclaim Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) paid for sickness absence.
Business Rates Holiday
A 12-month business rates holiday for all retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in England. The Local Authority will write to you in April.
Small business grant funding of £10,000 for all business in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief o grant funding of £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with property with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000

The Bank of England will provide support to larger firms by purchasing commercial paper of up to one-year maturity. Please contact your Bank as they are organising.
The HMRC Time To Pay Scheme
All businesses and self-employed people in financial distress, and with outstanding tax liabilities, may be eligible to receive support with their tax payments. For many personal tax is next due on 31st July and can be deferred or a plan negotiated.
Businesses that have cover for both pandemics and government-ordered closure should be covered, as the government and insurance industry confirmed on 17 March 2020 that advice to avoid pubs, theatres etc is sufficient to make a claim.
A link providing more detail on all of these and general advice for impacted businesses can be found from the Government & the Federation of Small Businesses on the following links:
