A major difference between MST and DisplayLink is that Apple does not support MST technology. Due to the new macOS operating system, if a docking station or a video adapter is plugged in, macOS displays the same content across all monitors.
M1/Silicon Mac’s allow you to connect a single external display to your Mac. Docks will not increase the number of displays you can connect, however you can still enjoy the benefits of the other ports. On a Mac mini with an Apple M1 chip, you can connect a second display to the HDMI port.
