At HardSoft we take pride in the close relationship we have with so many of our customers. By keeping in touch we are able to update and share information. This month we have been talking about which Apps and websites are working for you in class and here are the results.
TED– This App is a personal favourite of mine and I always point it out when doing any iPad or tablet training. I have been advised on more than one occasion about TED-Ed. This is a web based platform which allows teachers to share lessons. TED-Ed Lessons worth sharing can be accessed via Safari. There are over 200,000 lessons which have been successfully shared so far… check it out!!
Educreations. This is an easy to use white board app. As this App is free and so simple to use it is great for very young students to use. It has a handy voice recorder and you can create short videos also. Teachers can also use this to create and distribute lessons, soring them online for use again. You can share everything made in Educreations quickly and easily on a number of platforms.
Schoolology is a learning management solution. Allowing its users to create and submit homework and lessons. Participate in discussions surrounding assigned work. Collaberation between peers, file sharing and keep track of what has been submitted and the grades earned. This is for secondary level students and is a great tool if you are considering working using a flipped learning environment. Educators can use this to fully integrate technology in to the classroom. This will not only help streamline processes but also contain all grades, submitted work and information about each student the teacher will need in one place. Gone are the days of lugging huge piles of books around and home for staff, they can access everything that they need on their iPad.
Haiku Deck This free app (in app purchases) allows both students and teachers to make impressive and beautiful presentations. Using fantastic photographs and original fonts, this App is great for students to use for story telling. This app transforms your iPad in to an easy to use slideshow too helping even the most design repellent student look like a creative genius- turning out a very high quality of work.
Duolingo has been around for ages and is still going strong! This years “Apple’s iPhone App of the year” assists students by helping to learn a multitude of languages with daily practice. Because of the repetitive nature and challenges it sets for you it is an enjoyable and rewarding way to learn. Using this app for exam revision has been successful as well as teachers finding students are using it for fun- as a game at home is very exciting!
Draw and Tell By Duck Duck Goose, aimed at ages 3-9 this App encourages open ended play by giving the user to create a picture and tell the story of it. Developed last year, this app has been highlighted as one of Apple’s new and noteworthy Apps. As part of the Khan Academy, this app starts the process of Free World- Class Learning for all!
Animoto video slideshow maker. This free App is another great video and slideshow maker (You will have heard me banging on about iMovie.) You can make beautiful slideshows using photos and clips from your camera roll and share easily. Using this to round up a topic or a class trip is a great way of displaying photos easily.
Slack- Team Communication This App is a great communication tool for team work. Whether it be a group project, revision or school play, this App allows all of its members to stay in contact and share files from many platforms including Google Drive and Drop Box. Think of this as Whats App for school! The instant, free (on wifi) message system is a great way to collaborate and communicate between students.
MindMeister. This is a great FREE mind- mapping App. You can create and edit unlimited mind maps on this App for FREE. You can also take advantage of real time collaboration in the classroom situation with groups adding to the same map. This app is easy to use and colourful, helping you to create and remember with ease. There are a multitude of export options, ensuring you can send your mind map seamlessly.
