Last week Dell announced they were upgrading the XPS 13 Range

The XPS 13 2-in-1, and XPS 13 Developer Edition, are being refreshed with 11th Generation Intel processors, we take a look.

These are the first Dell laptops to have Evo certification from Intel, which means they support fast charging, can wake from sleep in under a second, and run for a minimum of nine hours on a single charge.

The new Tiger Lake CPUs will make these laptops even faster, particularly for graphics processing tasks such as video editing and PC gaming. There is talk that these new chips from Intel can outperform AMD’s rival processors in certain tasks too, but we’re sure AMD will have something to say about that!

Another new addition to these Dell XPS 13 models are Thunderbolt 4 ports, which connect via USB-C, meaning that there is enough bandwidth to cover a single 8K display, or two 4K displays, whichever you prefer.

Dell is also improving the speed of the LPDDR4x RAM to 4267MHz, up from 3733MHz, as well as adding an infrared sensor to the webcam on the 2-in-1 version, allowing Windows Hello facial recognition logins.

The XPS 13 is keeping it’s sleek aluminium casing, virtually borderless display, and long battery life (up to 17 hours in tests). Dell claims the updated XPS 13 laptop can now last up to 19 hours, so no need to charge midway through the day.

One common complaint about the last generation model was the lack of USB-A port, and unfortunately for those that had hoped for one, that’s still the case. The webcam has also stayed at 720p, which may disappoint some.

Customers will be able to configure these updated XPS 13s with Intel’s 11th Generation Core i3 CPU up to i7, and the laptop model can also be pre-loaded with Ubuntu 20.04LTS instead of Windows 10 operating system.

The Linux based XPS 13 Developer Edition is pre-loaded with Ubuntu 20.04LTS, with an updated InfinityEdge FHD+ display and Dell is pushing a battery life of almost 19 hours on this model too.

Devices are available and will be coming to the HardSoft website soon, so watch this space! In the meantime, you can still lease the XPS 13 9300 from £10.60 per week and take advantage of our 3-year warranty and technical support.
