- You can view all your devices that have been added to Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager, even if you don’t have device management.
- A redesigned interface that mirrors iOS and iPadOS.
- iOS and iPadOS applications can run on macOS naturally.
- A new version of Safari with more privacy controls and a focus on Safari extensions.
- User-approved enrolments are possible now with Supervision. Meaning devices that have been migrated to MDM without DEP recently can be included.
- A MacPro (2019 models on) can be powered up, shut down, and rebooted using Lights Out Management, even if the device isn’t responding.
- Auto Advance has been configured into the MDM, which means a device can build and set up automatically once connected to ethernet.
Which Devices have macOS Big Sur Support?

Changes to Note in Big Sur
Apple recently announced they will be switching to their own processors after using Intel’s CPUs since 2006. They want to create a common architecture across all of their devices so that developers can write and optimise apps for the entire Apple ecosystem. This change may mean that some software and apps will have to be redeveloped in order to work with the new architecture.
Both Adobe and Microsoft are already in the process of redevelopment, with demos of Adobe PhotoShop and Lightroom, as well as Microsoft’s 365suite, already up and running. For those apps that aren’t redeveloped in time, and emulation app called Rosetta 2 will allow them to run on Big Sur, which means that you can still run Intel architecture on a Silicon Mac device from day one of the new OS release.
Changes to the ‘networksetup’ utility are coming with Big Sur, so standard users will no longer be able to use this utility to change network settings. These modifications will require administrators approval, but standard users will still be able to read network settings and toggle WiFi on and off.
Kernel Extensions are No More
Big Sur will no longer run an application which relies on kernel extensions. You will need to move to System Extensions so that your functionality continues in macOS 11, which will have a serious impact on the Endpoint Security landscape for Sophos, MacAfee, and Symantec possibly lagging behind. All of your existing data on your devices should be backed up as a priority. It’s important to note that any device with Apple Silicon chips cannot be rolled back to a previous version.
