HardSoft History

Once upon a time in Sawbridgeworth…

Andrew and Phil Morgan became the Co-Founders of HardSoft back in the 80s! The year was 1983, Apple has just launched the first Macintosh and Amstrad’s beige plastic heaps dominated the market.

Phil, just 14 years old was a young programmer wielding the formidable Dragon 32 computer and pushing its 32K RAM and the gaming genre to their limits.

The barriers to gaining cutting-edge tech were broken down for good

At that time, a flagship Elonex PC with an Intel 25MHz 486 CPU could be as much as £3000! This was an issue for many businesses hesitant to invest in this young market without a safety net.

Andy, head of Sales, retreated to brood and ponder. He needed to make it less of a risky investment for businesses to get their hands on the hardware they needed.

HardSoft needed to make their products, not just the best available, they needed to make them affordable.

It was a roaring success!

Most Businesses were leasing their Franking Machines or Copiers why couldn’t they lease Computers? Teaming up with a local lease company the Flexi-Lease was born!

HardSoft placed an ad in Computer Shopper magazine in September 1983. It was a roaring success and Andrew didn’t go home that week. Quotes were posted, faxed and came flooding through the Post Office.

As time passed, the Flexi-Lease stayed as the flagship product, as it was engineered for the modern business. But we’ve always been building our portfolio of leasing products and services, to make sure our customers have a one-stop shop for all their IT needs.

…And became a passionate, hard-working team
