Fraud Prevention
In order to protect us and our customers from theft and fraud, we may pass on information that we obtain from making identify checks and other information in our customer records, including how you conduct your account, other retailers and to financial and other organisations (including law enforcement agencies) involved in fraud prevention and detection, to use in the same way.
Credit Applications
If you apply for credit we will search your record at a credit reference agency/agencies who will supply us with information including information from the Electoral Register. Information held about you by the credit reference agencies may already be linked to records relating to one or more of those with whom you are or have been financially linked or associated. For the purposes of this application you may be treated as financially linked and your application will be assessed with reference to any "associated" records. They will add to your record details of our search and your application. We will also add to this record, details of your agreement with us and the conduct of your account. This information and information from associated records and/or those with whom you are linked financially will be seen by other organisations carrying out later searches. We may give details of your account and how you manage it to credit reference agencies. If you do not repay in full and on time, we may tell credit reference agencies who will record the outstanding debt.
We will check your details with a fraud prevention agency/agencies and if you give us false or inaccurate information and we suspect fraud, we will record this with the agency/agencies. We and other organisations may use and search these records to:
- Help make decisions about credit and credit related services, for you and those with whom you are associated and/or financially linked
- Help make decisions on motor, household, credit, life and other insurance proposals and insurance claims, for you and members of your household
- Trace debtors, recover debt, prevent fraud, and to manage your accounts or insurance policies
- Check your identity to prevent money laundering, unless you furnish us with other satisfactory proof of identify
We, the credit reference agency/agencies and the fraud prevention agency/agencies may also use their records for statistical analysis about credit, insurance and fraud.
From time to time, we may search our records and those of credit reference agencies and fraud prevention agencies so that we can manage your account and take further decisions about credit. These searches will not be seen or used by other lenders for credit assessment purposes.
Disclosure of your personal information
- We may give information about you to our agents, staff and approved third parties to carry out services for us
- To anyone to whom we transfer our rights and duties under our agreement with you
- If we have a duty to do so or if the law allows us to do so
